Weekly summary (3rd July 2023)

It has been an exciting couple of weeks on the creative side of things. It’s made me question just how much time I can spend on existing projects vs starting new ones. One of the major events has been that I’ve been accepted for another year into the Samsung Member Stars team. Essentially, it’s their program for small time creators and influencers and I’m very surprised I was accepted given that applicated more than quadrupled this year!

Being accepted meant that I received a welcome pack with Samsung Swag as well an awesome pair of noise-cancelling headphones. They have a welcome event and this year it was virtual. I ended up having a short video introduction as a “featured member” of the community.

This was one of the nudges I had to seriously look at how I want to spend my time on the creative aspects. On the one hand, I have simplified my schedule quite a bit and ended up with some free time. It’s very tempting to fill it with more of the day job because I almost feel guilty spending a “work day” on projects that I find fun.

On the other hand, I can’t keep adding more projects and NOT taking time for myself to focus on exercise and other things. Also, simply being older means things take just that little bit longer these days too.

In the end, I’ve had to start looking at which projects are the boulders that are accelerating by themselves and which ones feel like I’m pushing up hill. I’ll be leaning into the ones that have the most momentum to hopefully get them to a critical point so that it gets a bit easier in the future.

That’s one of the reasons I’m going to scale back my posts and emails for the rest of this year. This newsletter grew and now it’s a small trickle of growth. Whereas Youtube, Insta and even the podcast are doing their thing and growing without as much effort. Not to say I’m shutting this down- I personally really enjoy writing the newsletters and also it’s the platform where I get the most amount of direct feedback so I’m definitely keepign it going. It might not be as regular as it has been.

With that, I wish you an amazing week ahead! I’ll see you next time, whether it be in a week or maybe a bit longer…
