While this weekend has been really relaxing, majority of the week has been the exact opposite! For whatever reason, this has been a week of running around and being late to everything. It’s either cases taking way longer than expected or literally having to wait at a railway crossing for 5 trains in a row. Some quick dot points:
- Eid disrupted my Monday due to changing the on-calls which started the whole “being late”
- Wednesday was the latest I’ve been in years: my morning list was meant to finish at 12:30, but actually finished at 14:15 followed by a 45 min drive across the city. Thankfully, I have amazing colleagues who covered my absence and all things worked out
- Upgraded my laptop to the one I mentioned last week and oh my, it was worth it! It’s made me even more confident in investing in the things I use daily
- Weekend: ample time to slow down, shoot/edit/upload videos, spend time with the family and go for long walks. Doing this for both days especially with cold and sunny weather was just a joy.
The biggest thing I’ve noticed this week is just how much nicer having days off in a row is vs the same number in a non-consecutive fashion. On the one hand, it’s obviously nicer since most holidays are essentially just this. I do pepper my year with short breaks to do exactly this, but having a day to do chores and another the next day seems to relieve the “pressure” of having to get all tasks done in the one day and makes things so much more luxurious.
Ironically, that’s exactly the reason I changed my schedule in the past to work on the weekends: I used to find that I was far more productive if I had a day off here and there vs multiple days in a row.
As I get older, I’m finding the joy in things taking their time and this change in pace is something I’m enjoying. I put the picture of Gary, my cat, in this edition because he seems to be the ideal avatar for this slow and luxurious life. He does go and do the essentials for a cat: eat, play, get cuddles, but also spends ample time just enjoying his time in the sun…
