The last week has been tumultuous at best. As I write this, I’m meant to be in Singapore but due to the complexities of travel during an easing pandemic, I couldn’t make it due to how long some of the processes take.
Not that it was going to be a “fun” trip, but it was disappointing none the less. It’s given me an appreciation of how well most things run when they’re running well. So much what we have to do is streamlined and user friendly that it requires an event that hasn’t happened in nearly a lifetime to send things awry!
Instead I went to Castlemaine with my parents. Given that the reason I was going to Singapore was because my fiancé’s father had passed away, it seemed like a good time given the long weekend in Melbourne to spend some quality time with my own parents. It had been forever since we last went on a long road trip. I’m not sure they enjoyed the drive there since I was listening to an audiobook at 2x speed the whole way 😂!
I hadn’t been to Castlemaine since I was a medical student. Fun fact: I had just passed my driving exam a few days prior to going on a rural rotation for 2 weeks and on this morning, got given a set of car keys and a map (these were pre-GPS days) and told to drive to this country town for a placement with a GP! My first unsupervised drive…
It’s changed a bit since then. The whole area was quite scenic and VERY relaxing.
It was actually quite nice just wandering through the town and then having fish and chips like when I was much younger. These little moments seem to make my parents reminisce more and more. I suppose they have a lot of memories to look back on…
Given it was the Labour Day long weekend, it was also the time for the Moomba festival in Melbourne. Unlike previous years due to the pandemic, this year, it was PACKED! I only went to see the fireworks the other night but this sight caught me off guard…
Just before the fireworks, people started paddleboarding down the Yarra wearing light up fairy wings!
Given I spent most of the weekend here at home, it also meant lots of time with the cats. Check out Instagram for some of the photos and also Luna just earlier today…
