It’s been a little while since the last update on here! This week has been luxurious! Spent lots of time being a resting surface for the cats…
- First week where due to on-call, leave (both mine and surgeons away) and public holidays, I didn’t work a single day in public and essentially worked 50% of normal! This week felt luxurious!
- Managed to catch up on a few projects that I’d left hanging. It’s really nice to have the time to power through some quick tasks that have built up over time
- Spent time with the folks before they went off on some travels. I never thought I’d be jealous of my parent’s adventures (since they hardly like going anywhere) but so far they’re really out there exploring!
- Slept. It has been SO good to have naps all over the place. Shocking for my sleep hygiene, but AMAZING to be able to do.
- Catch ups and visits – there were a few catch ups and people visiting from interstate too. That’s why even with less work, it hasn’t felt like an empty week.
Some details
The week could have started better – I was on call and doing the anaesthetic for a caesarean section when Monday started. That always leads to a bit of a sleep deprived kind of day given I was about an hour out of Melbourne. Thankfully, I was back in bed by 2am and had a decent sleep and a nice drive back.
Tuesday was a bit stop/start but one of the busiest days I’ve worked. 18 cases! It was a tiring day, but the right kind of tiring: it’s sort of tired that comes from a satisfying, if hard, day of work. I do enjoy those.
Wednesday started with personal training and heading to a new hospital that I had never been to. By the middle of the afternoon the nurses were commenting that this was the smoothest they’d ever seen a new list run. That was nice to hear 😊! Even though it was 9 cases, we finished on time and I had time to kill before going for a dinner catch up. I was wandering around the shopping mall and bumped into my wife who was also there avoiding the rush hour traffic and doing groceries!
Thursday was ANZAC day. A solemn day for sure and especially poignant given the current state of the world. I wasn’t dedicated enough to attend the dawn service but did keep it in mind the whole day. Again, the current events do drive home all the sacrifices people made for the freedoms we take for granted.
Friday didn’t feel like Friday given the day off just a day prior. It was again one that went quickly. Managed to make it to Friday prayer and spend some time with the folks before they went on their trip.
Saturday was airport runs, filming the next Youtube video and spending time with guests from Sydney. Was busy, but in a nice way. It was a very pleasant week I have to say!
