This week has been a LOT gentler than the ones in the past with a lot of things moving on the Stanford front:
- Stanford IT accounts are approved for the moment I land
- Insurance is sorted
- Down to the last 3 houses that I’m likely to stay in
It’s a little scary that the whole move is so close, and I STILL have a few things to iron out. It’s that nervous kind of energy that permeates everything right now.
Also, in just a few days, I’ll hopefully be visiting Japan again after many years. The original plan was to take my wife to Noumea for her birthday but given the situation politically is so volatile, we had to cancel our lovely stay and opt for Japan instead. I can’t wait to go get my Family Mart fried chicken (if you know, you know).
Other things that have happened this week:
- Had people over for lunch today, but THEY ended up bringing the food? It was delicious sushi that was enjoyed by all
- I got a Fuji Instax/Polaroid photo printer and printed one for them and one for our photo book. I really like being able to do that as a little memento
- I helped a colleague at work upskill on eye blocks. It was a bit strange because this person is someone I quite look up to and during training was giving us all tutorials, so to be helping them seemed like a role reversal.
- On a humbling note, one of the core blocks of anaesthesia is the epidural, which does have a failure rate. This was one of the first times in nearly a decade where I just couldn’t place it with an acceptable amount of risk. I felt terrible for the patient but when I went to see them for their review, they THANKED me to say that things are fine and they’re glad that I didn’t take any extra risks. Something to consider for future.
- Realised just how much I enjoy creating things and also sharing/hearing the responses from you all!
