Weekly Summary (16th June 2024)

This week felt long even though it started with an extra day off on Monday. After hardly doing any clincal work, I had started to relax a bit too much! 🤣

Some quick updates:

  • updated the yearly clinical stats and it’s finally up on here!
  • caught up on a bunch of small tasks that I’ve been meaning to do
  • finally saw what a “quiet” on-call was like in the country hospital
  • celebrated Eid!

It’s been a week of small tasks more than anything else. It’s only 3ish weeks til I fly out to the US and there’s just so many little tasks to complete before then. In a way, this feels like moving house: when you start, you realise just how much clutter has built up over time that you need to sort out!

In a way, it’s good- it’s forced me to take everything that is vague plans on my mind and write them down or make them more concrete. It’s almost like doing a restart of the brain. On the one hand, there’s a lot of activity and it’s stressful, but on the other, things are a bit more clear. Having the 3 week time frame also means I’m not starting random things I’ll have no hope of finishing in the timeframe.

I finally had a “quiet” on-call that everyone else talks about at our country hospital site. EVERYTIME I’m there, it’s actually pretty busy so I had no idea it could be so relaxing! Even though it was very light work, I found myself stressing and decided to do a “brain dump” of tasks as mentioned before. It was nice to simply have the time to do that.

It was Eid today. Made it back in time to get changed and celebrate with the folks, especially given the move coming up. That’s the other thing: though it’s only for a few months, there is this “savouring of the everyday” that’s happening right now. I’m hyper aware of the little things and noticing them way more than normal. Everyday things feel special somehow?

Maybe it’s a good thing: it’s making me stop and smell the roses.
