Well, well, it’s another delayed email! The weekends have become endless lists of chores at the moment or work. This week in general has been PACKED full of things. Including…packing and moving (har har! see? had to have a pun in there!)
That said, this week has also been full of interesting things including, seeing the Rone exhibit in the normally inaccessible parts of Flinders Street Station, one of the most memorable dinners I have had in a while and also moving to our new apartment!
The last week has been a bit more relaxed in terms of work with me having cut down on a lot of the on-calls I’d normally do. Given all of the moving is happening after work, it’s very much needed to maximise the after work period.
So the reason this newsletter is delayed is because we chose a random day (Sunday) to start living in the new apartment. Even though we picked it weeks ago, it seems to have snuck up on us and we spent the whole day literally getting the last few things across so that we could actually SLEEP in the new apartment!
The cats have been stressed by the move. Gary is behaving like his younger self and can’t stop exploring the new space and constantly is upset at being locked up into a room. Now, we’re only doing that because Luna is literally keeping herself locked in the laundry even with the door open because she’s stressed or intimidated by Gary when she’s out.
It’s been a bit bittersweet given that the old apartment has been home for the better part of 7 years. It’s odd to enter and see it relatively empty with a lot of the personal things that made it our own space…
After (I calculated) 2.5 months, I finally at least got to go on a flying lesson on the weekend just gone. And it was BAD! I was sleep deprived, missed my revision time and was doing stalls as the lesson. Now this means doing the most unnatural thing, which is slowing the plane down, making it point nose up as if to climb. Eventually, the plane can’t maintain lift and does a quick nose dive that you’re meant to recover from.
It literally feels like a rollercoaster and after the second or third one, my brain was mush! I literally couldn’t answer any simple questions or even fly the plane without prompts! Not revising also didn’t help…
This Friday just gone was quite a busy one. Had work in the morning, then made it home just in time for Jummah prayer, then off to the Rone exhibit in the old, normally inaccessible rooms of Flinders St Station. It was a magnificent exhibition and I’m so glad I didn’t miss it like his previous ones!
Straight after that was dinner with a good friend and his partner. It was an amazing omakase restaurant called Asoko. Even though the chef was Korean, he made some of the best Japanese dishes I’ve tasted. Afterwards, we had to stay and chat about the food and the restaurant til the wait staff all left and it was just us and the chef chatting!
Even though it’s a small restaurant that was fully booked, staffing issues may force his hand to close 😫In any case, it was a fantastic meal and one that I wont forget anytime soon. And this is coming from a non-foodie!
