A Vivid Visit
It was a bit of a whirlwind trip but a visit to Vivid Live was completed this weekend. Vivid is in it’s 12th year and it has grown BIG! Back in the day, it was mainly 3d mapped projections on the Sydney Opera House, Bridge and some of the city buildings. Something that you could probably see all of in a night.
These days, there’s entire precincts of Vivid that I hadn’t even gone near! As always the Opera house was lit up. Unforunately, one of the main attractions this year is a drone show but it’s not on every night. Ahh well!
From what I did see, however, the festival looked as great as ever. One of the things that really surprised me was the LED bollard signs throughout the festival. Essentially, its a curved display near all the art works giving some details about it. I remember back to one of the original Vivid events when something like that with a video playing WAS the art work!
One difference this time around was just how much of it was animated. Vivid has always had light projections and movement but also relatively static artworks too. This time around, almost everything had a movement component and a music component too. As such, this was the first event where I felt like photos definitely didn’t give you the full picture
I’ll have to do a short video on the art works at some point.
Have you been to Vivid in the past? Planning to go this year? Drop me a comment to let me know!
