I never thought I’d say this after finishing school, but I love school holidays! Some of the regular surgeons I work with are away and I went out of my way to keep some of those sessions free. This means I’ve had little half days here and there the past week and it’s been BLISSFUL. I was going to go have some more time off, but my friends that cover me when I’m on leave requested some help so I thought I’d reciprocate. Anyway, this week has made me realise I need to make 1 drastic change.
Til now, if I worked with friends, I never considered exchanging that surgical list for free time since it was a monthly catch up if nothing else. Nowadays, most people I work with are all friends and I try and help out after hours and weekends for their emergency cases too. The last week has made me realise that I’d generally be much happier if I just had a bit more time off. So, from next year, I think I’ll be stopping some of those lists and passing them on, even if they’re friend lists.
After all, the only reason they’re so desirable is that I just don’t have the time to catch up with them outside work, because I’m AT work. It’s an odd catch-22 problem! Like my upcoming holiday, just making the mental decision has already made me look forward to it so it feels like the right one to make…
Being winter, the cats have also been much more keen to sit on laps. Given that the new episodes of Stranger Things is out, they had a very captive human audience to keep them warm. Though I wonder if watching all this “upside down” is making Luna a bit more evil… Just look at the scheming look! 😂
You may have noticed that todays email has come ACTUALLY on a Sunday. That’s because I had most of yesterday and all of today off to work on all things creative and get the house in order. It’s actually been quite a full day with a run, groceries, house work, posting the most recent podcast, recording another one and getting this done. Now, I’ll be heading to the Docklands to see the last bit of the Firelight Festival. Hopefully it’s still on by the time I get there. On that note, see you next week!
