Well, today was a rest day. One that was sorely needed after 20 continuous days of work. Not all were full days but I’ve realised that once I hit about 10-12 in a row, even half days tend to take it out of me. I’m getting old I guess?
I actually had a few phone calls to cover things today, but it was a hard no. Mainly because last night, I went to catch up with one of my good friends for dinner. Unbeknownst to me, as we left the restaurant, I had dropped my wallet and didn’t even notice. Now, this is only the second time EVER I’ve lost my wallet and the last time was 2 decades ago and I noticed within 15 mins.
This morning, I went for a long walk with another friend which was ironically about 100m away from where the wallet was! I still had no idea it was missing until the front desk person at the apartment called me to say a good Samaritan had picked it up and tried to contact me! Turned out that the person who picked it up was a GP who doesn’t practise clinical medicine but noticed one of the credit cards I had was titled with “Dr” and so he decided to Google me and try to contact me! He’s working on some tests to see if long covid is resulting from microscopic clotting issues. Will be interesting to hear his findings!
In other news, I have submitted my list of days off so that I can actually start my flight lessons. Today was a possibility but the weather was quite unsuitable for a beginner with strong winds and rough skies. I have got my first bit of reading to get through in the mean time! It’s exciting to know that it’s ACTUALLY happening!
On the work front, even after cutting down a bit, I’ve realised there’s probably a little bit more to trim to make work sustainable. It’s actually been a bit hard to get over the fact that some of the people I’ll stop working with are friends that I’ve known since medical school. Part of the problem is that working feels like a catch up and it’s hard to separate the social from the professional. Have you encountered any situations like that?
