It was my birthday this weekend and I was treated to a wonderful getaway in a lovely country cottage in Daylesford, Victoria. Even though it’s only about 90mins away from Melbourne, I had never been there before! It’s a well known location to visit from Melbourne, so I was a bit surprised to find that it wasn’t full of tourists or too busy on the weekends.
The weekend consisted of an amazing dinner at Sault, walks by the lake and more food. It was such a needed break and the first bit of travel in a while that hasn’t been disrupted by Covid for me personally!
The Cottage @ 4a was just lovely little spot close to the lake but juuuuust outside the bustle of the main town. As mentioned above, it wasn’t as busy as I expected but the being just that few minutes walk away meant that in the evening, I could stare out and watch the stars (and the many suspected Starlink satellites too!). The cottage had a fireplace too which just added to the cosy atmosphere especially with so many places to sit and in seclusion…
The Daylesford area was also just very picturesque. It was a lot more rustic than I expected given everyone talks about the spas and such. Somehow it still felt like the small country town that it was while retaining it’s character and resisting total gentrification given it’s proximity to the city.
Overall, it was a very relaxing trip which made me miss my cats very much. Thankfully, I set up a remote feeder for Luna as well now that has a camera built in to check on her.
They generally behaved but… left me a present to find when we got back. Now before I left, I cleaned out both their litters but wasn’t super thorough as it was getting late in the day and we weren’t going to be gone for that long.
Gary obviously took offense to the lack of cleaning and decided to do his business on the mat in front of the litter (probably today) since the litter seemed full.
So it went from a nice relaxing holiday to having to clean up around the apartment on return!
Overall though, still a great weekend away and a very relaxing birthday!
